Solar Power Plant Testing

Performance Tests

To Measure PV plant’s actual energy output against its theoretical output over a continuous period (e.g., 30 days) to ensure it meets guaranteed performance levels, especially at commissioning. 

Problem Identification

To detect underperformance issues, component defects, or installation faults that may not be visible to the naked eye. 

Testing Regime includes:

  • Pre-commissioning tests required for initial acceptance tests to verify performance standards before the plant becomes fully operational. 
  • Operational Tests performed at regular  intervals and monitoring during the plant’s operational lifetime. 
  • Post-Storm Events are performed to detect hidden module damage from severe weather conditions like hail or high winds. 
  • At Manufacturer’s End-of-Line tests for defects at the factory before they are used in a plant. 

 

Testing Scope

  • IV Curve Testing verifies that solar panels are producing power according to expectations and helps establish a baseline for future performance. 
  • Thermography using infrared camera to inspect photovoltaic solar systems for problems that can cause damage to the cells, loss of efficiency, and fire hazards
  • Electroluminescence (EL) Imaging by applying a forward electric current to the PV modules, causing them to emit light (electroluminescence) that is captured by a specialized camera. This light reveals defects like microcracks, broken cells, and soldering issues that are otherwise invisible
